Sunderland winger returns to Wearside as invincible loan deal expires

Regis Le Bris has continued to develop Sunderland talent since his arrival.

Sunderland have produced many gems over the years, as Dan Neil is poised to make his first Premier League start.

At every football club, up and down England, there is an importance of having a strong youth setup, as Sunderland’s academy has impressed over the years.

Sunderland brought Tommy Watson through their ranks recently, a winger who has gone on to play Premier League football, as Chris Rigg has made waves.

Le Bris will be hoping Sunderland can replicate the same success with one young man who has achieved a remarkable feat while away from the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland loanee Rhys Walsh didn’t lose at South Shields

Sunderland youth starlet Rhys Walsh departed the club on loan on 15 August to join National League North side South Shields.

The North East club South Shields expressed their delight on their club website when they captured Walsh on a 28-day loan.

“Rhys is someone who brings us real pace from wide areas, he’s a very attack-minded player and will unsettle opposition a lot.

“We’re really happy to have Rhys join us and we’re excited to work with him.”

Walsh did what he could while on loan, as while he was there, his temporary side went a whopping 11 games unbeaten with eight wins included.

Walsh gained some valuable game time, as Sunderland now needs to take the next steps in ensuring his development continues.

What Sunderland should do with Walsh next

Walsh needs consistent game time at 19 years old; that’s why he needs to be loaned out again as soon as possible.

The young attacker is seen as a valuable future asset by the Black Cats, and they should look at loaning him to League Two in January.

Walsh is seen as a direct, explosive forward, and there is a good chance that there’s a League Two side that would be willing to take an educated punt at a youngster like him.
