Sunderland will fume at Premier League announcement made for Bournemouth clash

The officials have been named for Sunderland’s clash with Bournemouth, and it will leave fans furious.

Sunderland host Bournemouth this weekend, looking to get back to winning ways after their 1-0 defeat to Fulham last time out.

The Black Cats are one of the few Premier League teams yet to lose at home this season, and Regis Le Bris will be looking to keep that run going beyond this weekend’s clash with the Cherries.

However, their chances of doing so may be harmed by the fact that Tim Robinson has been announced as the referee of the game, just weeks after making a huge call at the Stadium of Light.

Tim Robinson waved away Sunderland penalty shouts vs Everton

Sunderland secured a point in a 1-1 draw with Everton at the start of November, with Granit Xhaka getting his first goal for the Black Cats after Iliman Ndiaye gave the visitors the lead.

It was a game of two halves, with Everton dominating the first 45 minutes, and Le Bris’ side seeing more of the game in the second 45 minutes.

However, towards the latter stage of the clash, Michael Keane appeared to block a cross with his arm, with everyone in the Stadium of Light awaiting a penalty, even Everton fans.

However, referee Robinson waved the appeals away, and to everyone’s surprise, VAR failed to intervene on this occasion.

Former PGMOL Chief Keith Hackett was bemused by the decision, and said: “I think that the defender knows exactly what he is doing, and his outstretched right hand makes contact with the ball.

He made no attempt to withdraw his right hand, and Sunderland have a right to be unhappy.

Sunderland’s record with Tim Robinson in charge

Robinson has been the man in the middle on 14 occasions for Sunderland, with the Black Cats winning just four of those games.

Their most recent win in that scenario was back in 2023, when Abdoullah Ba scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win way to Norwich City.

Five have ended in defeat, while the remaining five have ended in a draw, with just one red card issued throughout that period.

That was back in 2018, when Jake Clarke-Salter was sent off in a 3-3 draw with Middlesbrough at the Stadium of Light.
