Sunderland have been linked with a move for Halmstads BK 21-year-old striker Yannick Agnero ahead of the January transfer window, according to 225 Foot.

Attacking woes have been the main concern for Sunderland this season with Wilson Isidor the latest to struggle in front of goal and Agnero has been identified as a potential addition according to 225 Foot (24 December).

Nazariy Rusyn has been tipped for a January exit and it could open the door for a new arrival with Agnero already one of several names mentioned.

Agnero has notched on four occasions this season with clubs from Europe reportedly keeping a close eye on his progress in Sweden.

Sunderland need to sign a proven striker

Whether Sunderland need to sign a striker as a priority remains up for debate, but if they do, it needs to be a proven one with a knack of scoring in England.

The Black Cats already have the likes of Isidor, Eliezer Mayenda and Ahmed Abdullahi as strikers for the future, and the addition of Agnero would be seen as another one in that regard.

Evan Ferguson would be a far more adequate addition having been linked with a move to the Stadium of Light (The Scotsman), with his knowledge of English football a telling factor.

Ambition will need to be shown in January if the Wearsiders are going to maintain their promotion push and it may require a slight change in approach.

Sunderland have showcased a heavy emphasis on youth recruitment in recent seasons which all things considered, has worked effectively but that extra sprinkle of proven quality could prove to be the difference in their hopes of a Premier League return.
