Sunderland want Kwame Poku as transfer offer made via Zoom call

Sunderland can plan for the summer transfer window as a Premier League club, having defeated Sheffield United in the Championship play-off final.

Before the game, it was revealed that the Black Cats had drawn up two transfer lists depending on their Wembley fate.

With that now sealed, the transfer murmurings are in full swing, with potential incomings and outgoings at Sunderland.

As the Wearsiders aim to add firepower, they have identified a man with substantial returns this season.

Sunderland target prolific League One winger

Sunderland will certainly enter the Premier League as relegation favourites, but that will not matter one bit to supporters.

All the Black Cats can do is strengthen their squad as best they can and give the top flight a real swing.

With Tommy Watson’s departure confirmed, and Jobe Bellingham’s likely, the North East club must strengthen forward areas.

Indeed, it appears that they already have their eye on a player who has enjoyed a remarkable season in front of goal in League One.

Sunderland are reportedly targeting Peterborough United winger Kwame Poku, who is out of contract this summer, according to Sunday People journalist Neil Moxley.

Poku has 20 goal involvements in League One and is understandably a wanted man, with Sheffield United also interested.

Posh’s director of football, Barry Fry, claims that a staggering 26 clubs are interested in signing the 23-year-old.

Moxley claims Birmingham and Sheffield United are two of them with Blues reportedly making an offer to Poku through a Zoom call.

Poku worth Sunderland gamble

Some will question why the Black Cats would want to sign a League One player, and they would be right to do so.

However, the fact that Poku will be available on a free transfer presents Sunderland with a risk-free punt.

With Watson departing, the Wearsiders need wingers to challenge Romaine Mundle and Patrick Roberts.

Furthermore, at 23, the forward fits the Sunderland bill in terms of signing young, upcoming talent.

Of course, the North East club must do more to build a strong side, but this would be an encouraging start.
