Sunderland vs Bournemouth result predicted by supercomputer

Sunderland are back at the Stadium of Light on Saturday to face Bournemouth.

Fulham secured a 1-0 win against Sunderland last time out, in what was arguably the Black Cats’ worst performance of the season so far.

Regis Le Bris’ decision to play a back five backfired, and that is likely something he will change when they welcome the Cherries to Wearside this weekend.

This will only be the 11th time these two sides have faced off against each other, with a repeat of what happened last time out expected.

Bournemouth expected to beat Sunderland

Despite their latest defeat, Sunderland have had a great season so far, and their form at the Stadium of Light has been crucial to that.

The Black Cats are yet to lose at home, having picked up 12 points from the 18 that have been available.

Sunderland played out a 2-2 draw with Arsenal last time out at the Stadium of Light, but their unbeaten run is expected to come to an end against Bournemouth this weekend.

Via Opta‘s supercomputer, the Cherries have a 44.1 per cent chance of taking all three points, while Sunderland have a 30.8 per cent chance.

If that prediction were to come true, it would be a repeat of 2017, when Bournemouth secured a 1-0 win at the Stadium of Light, with Josh King the goalscorer.

Sunderland vs Bournemouth is a rare encounter

The very first meeting between these two sides was back in 1988, when Sunderland had to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw.

Since then, there have only been nine encounters, with less than half of them being played in the top flight of English football.

Of those 10 encounters, Sunderland have won five, with three ending in a draw and the remaining two ending in a defeat.

Sunderland’s last home victory against the Cherries was back in 1989.

A win for the Black Cats this weekend could take them back up to third, depending on results elsewhere.
