Sunderland v Blackburn Rovers: Kris Boyd gag has Sky Sports studio in stiches

Sunderland fell to another defeat as they were beaten 1-0 at home by Blackburn Rovers, with their campaign drawing to a close.

Regis Le Bris has led Sunderland to fourth place in the Championship, with their play-off spot secured, but the last few weeks have seen a string of poor results.

The Black Cats were beaten by Blackburn at the Stadium of Light, in another disappointing performance, in a drab game overall.

Those covering the game enjoyed themselves more than the fans in attendance, and former Rangers star Kris Boyd enjoyed a hilarious moment during the match.

Boyd’s hilarious moment during Sunderland defeat

Boyd was covering Sunderland’s defeat at the Stadium of Light, and there was little to report on for large periods of the game.

This meant that the former Scotland international was hardly seen in his role from the stadium, and Sky presenter Julian Warren saw the funny side.

“I knew nothing was happening there but I wanted the Kris Boyd fan club to have its moment,” he said on Sky Sports News (April 21, 4:44pm) after the footage cut to Boyd after a quiet period.

“What’s that [the fan club’s] disbanded?” Warren then added, with the Sky studio, including Boyd, bursting out into laughter.

Sunderland play-off preparation has been disastrous

Sunderland were in an advantageous position as they were the only side to have confirmed their Championship play-off place with weeks to spare.

This meant that they could have rested and rotated players to get themselves into the best possible shape for the promotion play-off clashes.

However, they have since lost their last three games in a row, and have failed to score more than once in seven consecutive games.

Sunderland are running out of steam heading into the play-offs, and they will need to lift the mood around the team and club when they reach those final few crucial games.

Tommy Watson has been included in the team for the last few games, and fans are deeply unhappy with his selection given that he is set to depart in the summer, and the mood around the club is a tense one heading into the final month.
