Sunderland v Blackburn result predicted by supercomputer

Sunderland are looking towards the end of the Championship season, knowing that they face a play-off showdown already.

Regis Le Bris’ side has had a strong season, securing their top-six finish well in advance of the end of the campaign, giving plenty of time to prepare.

That being said, Sunderland will want to finish the season on a high note, providing some momentum heading into the play-off campaign.

Therefore, after defeat against Bristol City on Friday (18 April), the Black Cats will be keen to put things right against Blackburn Rovers.

Sunderland ready to get back on track

It was a Good Friday to forget for Sunderland, who had to play the majority of the game with 10 men due to Trai Hume receiving a controversial red card.

With that in mind, Le Bris’ side were on the wrong end of a 2-1 defeat, with the pressure eventually telling in what could be a repeat playoff clash.

Visitors Blackburn will be no easy opponents, though, as they come into this game on the back of a 4-1 victory against Millwall.

That being said, Rovers sit seven points away from the top six, meaning the chance to appear in the play-offs is incredibly unlikely.

As a result, the Opta supercomputer is backing the Black Cats to get back on track on home turf with a 57.3 per cent chance of victory.

It should be a fairly calm afternoon for Sunderland as there is 22.1 per cent of a draw with a Blackburn victory the least likely outcome at 20.6 per cent.

Sunderland need momentum going into the play-offs

Securing a play-off spot as early as they have is a massive signal of how well Sunderland have done this season and should take off the pressure in the final games.

That being said, the Black Cats can’t afford to rest on their laurels, and they have to be prepared to up the tempo again in the final fixtures of the season, putting them in a good position heading into the play-offs.

Le Bris’ side can end the season on a high.

Sunderland have some fairly good fixtures ahead of them, meaning the boss can use them as opportunities to build confidence as well as testing out players who he might want to turn to in the big games.

Le Bris will know now is the time to pick up the energy again, rather than entering the play-offs feeling like his side needs to come out of a rut.
