Sunderland U21 boss Graeme Murty makes ‘Invaluable’ admission despite Boston defeat

Graeme Murty has described the experience as “invaluable” after his Sunderland Under-21 side fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Boston United on Tuesday.

The Black Cats had previously found themselves on a six-game winning run although defeat against Boston in the National League Cup put an end to that.

Murty described the experience as “invaluable” in a post-game interview with the club channels, on 6 November.

Murty said: “I didn’t think we laid a glove on our opponents in the first half. I think they got a little bit intimidated playing against a men’s team. We didn’t actually stand up to the challenge.

“The disappointing part for us was too many of our players kinda catastrophised the experience rather than embracing the experience and actually taking it for what it was worth. The experience is going to be invaluable going forward.”

Adil Aouchiche features for Sunderland U21 side, again

Adil Aouchiche arrived on Wearsider last summer with plenty of intrigue and excitement given his pedigree in French football but things just haven’t worked out for him.

Tuesday’s game saw the Frenchman in the starting lineup which was a surprise as many were expecting him to feature for the senior team in some capacity given the absence of Jobe Bellingham.

Similarly to Abdoullah Ba, Aouchiche has found himself completely frozen out of the side under Regis Le Bris and all signs are pointing towards a January exit.

It’s somewhat of a shame to see his time at Wearside fizzle out the way it has as he has shown glimpses of quality when featuring last season.

A player with a great eye for a pass and the ability to score goals but his inclusion has been non-existent and it is hard to see his Sunderland career extending any further than the January transfer window.

In other Sunderland news, Mel Reay was full of praise for her Sunderland Women side as they ran out winners in a seven-goal thriller against Bristol City on Sunday.
