Sunderland trio respond to Tommy Watson message after what he did vs Man United

Tommy Watson departed Sunderland as a hero after his play-off final goal.

Sunderland are enjoying a magnificent campaign back in the Premier League, having picked up 17 points from their first nine games.

However, they are doing so without several of the players who were instrumental in their promotion from the Championship last season.

Watson was one of those who moved on from the Stadium of Light in the summer, and what he achieved at the weekend caught the attention of several Black Cats stars.

Tommy Watson makes Premier League debut for Brighton

Watson was remarkable for Sunderland in the Championship, and had it not been for his late strike at Wembley, the Black Cats would not have experienced the highs that they have so far this season.

However, Brighton swooped for the teenager in the summer, where he has since made just three appearances for the Seagulls across all competitions.

Only one of those arrived in the Premier League, when Watson made his Premier League debut for Brighton in their 4-2 defeat to Man United on Saturday.

It was a momentous occasion for the 19-year-old, who took to Instagram to share his delight at the latest milestone.

His post reads: “Premier League debut”, with a blue and white love heart emoji alongside it.

Romaine Mundle replied “Superstar”, while Chris Rigg and Salford City loanee Matt Young replied with emojis to their former teammate.

Minutes have been hard to come by for Tommy Watson

Watson played 31 minutes for Brighton in their latest defeat, with his other two appearances coming in the Carabao Cup.

The teenager scored in their 6-0 hammering of Oxford back in August, and registered a hat trick of assists in their 6-0 defeat over Barnsley a month later.

His display against Barnsley in particular caught the eye, which makes it somewhat of a surprise that he has seen very few minutes in the league.

After a somewhat promising display at Old Trafford, Watson’s time to shine at Brighton will certainly come in the near future.
