Sunderland transfer round-up: Diakité offer made amid Mundle contract update
Sunderland must put the finishing touches on their squad if they are to be ready for the Premier League.
The Black Cats have significantly strengthened their midfield, with Habib Diarra a record signing at the Stadium of Light.
However, Regis Le Bris needs more at the back if the Wearsiders are to be defensively solid next season.
Now, there has been news of an offer for Lille defender Bafodé Diakité as well as a contract update on Romaine Mundle, as Mackem News provides the latest transfer round-up.

Lille make transfer demands for Bafodé Diakité
Sunderland and Bournemouth have made offers of £23.2million for Diakité; however, they have been knocked back by Lille.
It has been reported that the Ligue 1 outfit are holding out for a fee of around £35million, which could prove to be a sticking point.
Bafodé Diakité’s 2024/25 Ligue 1 statistics | Total |
Appearances | 31 |
Goals | 4 |
Assists | 1 |
Clean sheets | 10 |
Total duels won | 3.8 (59%) |
Touches | 81.4 |
The 24-year-old has been a lynchpin in Lille’s defence and made 48 appearances in all competitions last season, with 10 coming in the Champions League.

Mundle offered Sunderland contract amid interest
Sunderland have offered Mundle a new contract at the Stadium of Light in a bid to tie him down for the long term.
The winger has developed into an exceptional talent on Wearside and made valuable contributions last season despite a lengthy injury layoff.
PSV Eindhoven have been linked with a move for Mundle, while AS Monaco and Premier League sides are said to be interested.
Black Cats make bold Frank Anguissa and Granit Xhaka moves
Frank Anguissa left Fulham four years ago, but could be set to return to the Premier League with Sunderland.
The Black Cats have made a direct approach to the player’s agent, while they also work on a deal for Granit Xhaka.
However, Napoli have already offered Anguissa a new contract and are confident he will sign it through to 2028.
If the North East club were to pull off either of those deals, then they would make another statement ahead of the new season.
