Sunderland told they have no reason for panic stations despite Burnley defeat

Sunderland laboured to a dismal 2-0 defeat at Burnley last time out in the Premier League.

Regis Le Bris‘ side were hoping to expand on a wonderful opening day victory, but instead they were sent back to the Stadium of Light with their tail between their legs.

Sunderland destroyed established Premier League side West Ham on their return to the division, but the mood is downbeat after the Turf Moor result.

However, Sunderland supporters need to get behind the team and get them back up for the huge fight that they face to survive.

Sunderland told they do not need to panic

Sunderland have made some incredible signings, with the likes of Granit Xhaka and Nordi Mukiele to aid their relegation fight, which has taken a setback after the Burnley result.

Darke believes that the Black Cats do not need to worry at the moment, due to the result that they picked up at home on the opening day.

Speaking exclusively to Mackem News, he said: “A draw would have been a good result for them there, having won first time up.

“They will be a bit disappointed not to pick something up at Burnley, because when you look at the fixtures as a team coming up, there are probably fixtures that you are going to target.

“We are going to need 38 points from somewhere, that is 10 wins and eight draws. We can lose 20, but you know, we are probably going to lose 10 out of 12 against the top six, so that only leaves you another 10.

“That is the kind of fixture that they won’t want to be losing, having said that, they have got three points on the board first time out, so there is nothing for anyone to be panicking about yet for Sunderland.

“As with Leeds and Burnley, the home form is going to be crucial, but it was a disappointing result bearing in mind how good they were against West Ham.”

Sunderland have plenty of time to prove themselves

Le Bris’ side have plenty of time to prove that they belong in the top-flight and there will be more opportunities to pick up points.

They would have loved to win against relegation rivals, but they must now pick themselves up and be ready to go against Brentford.

The squad has to put negative results behind them quickly and focus on what is to come, and supporters should do the same.
