Sunderland ‘to take phenomenal gamble’ with Liverpool star Gomez – Exclusive
Sunderland could make a move for Liverpool star Joe Gomez this summer.
The Black Cats are in desperate need of Premier League experience after securing their return to the top-flight following an eight-year absence.
The champions are understood to be willing to allow the year-old to depart Anfield and Regis Le Bris‘ side could take advantage.

Sunderland tipped to sign Gomez as Liverpool exit looms
A report from The Guardian (18 June) claims that the Stadium of Light outfit are in the queue to sign the two-time top-flight winner, who is rated at £30million by the Reds.
Iconic commentator Ian Darke believes that the Mackems should take the risk with the former England defender, despite concerns over his injury record.
Speaking exclusively to Mackem News, he said: “I think if they got Joe Gomez, that would be a fantastic signing for Sunderland. You are signing a player with proven quality at Premier League level.
“That is exactly the type of signing they should be making, but whether Gomez is agreeable to such a move, we will see. I would say it would be a phenomenal signing.
“His fitness record is not great but his quality is. He is definitely a Premier League defender. If you look at the kind of defenders that Southampton, Ipswich and Leicester had on the pitch last season, I am not trying to pour any scorn on them, but that is why they were letting in 80-plus goals.
“The first thing I would look at if I were a manager of one of the promoted clubs, is get the defence sorted out, let’s be hard to beat, let’s not be that soft touch, where everybody looks at the fixtures and think there is a guaranteed three points.
“From a Sunderland perspective, I think it would be absolutely fantastic if they could were to get Gomez. It is a bit of a gamble with his fitness issues but it is a good gamble.”

Gomez deal would be brilliant for Sunderland
The former Charlton man featured nine times in the top division for Arne Slot’s last season for a total of 519 minutes.
If he can shake off his injury issues, he would be a vital addition in the Black Cats survival bid, which has taken a hit after losing Jobe Bellingham to Borussia Dortmund.
Gomez’s exit from Anfield has looked likely for a while, according to Liverpool News, with the likes of and with the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate ahead of him in the pecking order with the Reds.
If Le Bris and Co. could get Gomez through the door, it would be a real coup and if he can stay fit, it could be the difference between staying up and going straight back to the Championship.
