‘Sunderland to go all out for Mikautadze’ as Roma drop major transfer hint
Sunderland’s ambitious move to sign Georges Mikautadze this summer could be on the cards.
It was clear as soon as promotion back to the Premier League was achieved that the Black Cats would need attacking reinforcements this summer, and with a deal for Chemsdine Talbi imminent, they are doing just that.
They won’t stop there, though, having been linked with a move to sign Mikautadze from Lyon, ahead of their pending relegation to Ligue 2.
Roma have also been linked, but the recent update from Italy could serve to benefit the Wearsiders in their pursuit of the Georgian.

Roma could be set to sign Nikola Krstovic
Tammy Abraham has departed Roma this summer, leaving them in need of a striker, and both they and Sunderland have been pushing to secure a deal to sign Mikautadze.
However, according to a report by Corriere dello Sport (5 July), Nikola Krstovic has opened up for a move to Roma, which will be interesting reading for Black Cats fans.
Georges Mikautadze’s 2024/25 Ligue 1 statistics | Total |
Appearances (starts) | 34 (13) |
Goals | 11 |
Expected goals (xG) | 10.24 |
Goal conversion | 20% |
Assists | 6 |
Big chances created | 9 |
Krstovic was believed to be their backup plan should a deal for Mikautadze fall, and with his willingness to join, those plans may change.
Should that be the case, Sunderland‘s main competitor in the race to sign Mikautadze could move on, leaving space for the Black Cats to pounce.

Regis Le Bris is being backed by Sunderland
Sunderland have notiously spent money over the years, and the fact that their transfer record has already been broken twice this summer speaks volumes about their ambitions this season.
The Wearsiders are set to have a real push at achieving survival, and even if a deal for Mikautadze doesn’t materialise, the link shows that they are looking in all of the right places.
Several more additions are expected at the Stadium of Light, with the lads already back for pre-season training.
