Sunderland to face Jobe Bellingham bid ‘immediately after play-off final’

Borussia Dortmund are stepping up their efforts to secure the signature of Sunderland midfielder Jobe Bellingham this summer.

The Black Cats have their full attention on the Championship play-off final against Sheffield United at Wembley, which could see Regis Le Bris’ side return to the Premier League after eight years away.

Transfer dealings have been put on hold until the Mackems know what division they will operate out of next season, which means several of their stars’ futures are still up in the air.

However, other teams are already well underway with their business, including Dortmund, who have the Club World Cup to deal with around the new transfer window format.

Borussia Dortmund prepare immediate Bellingham bid

According to Sky Sports’ Patrick Berger, Dortmund are pushing to sign the 19-year-old immediately and want him as part of the squad they take to this summer’s Club World Cup.

Berger also states that the German giants are respecting Sunderland’s play-off final, before directly approaching the Black Cats.

They have prepared a bid for the starlet, which Dortmund plan to submit after Saturday’s match.

Sunderland must keep hold of Jobe if they achieve promotion

If the Black Cats do run out victors at Wembley, attention will quickly turn to how they can best prepare a squad to fight for Premier League survival next season.

The past two top-flight campaigns have seen the three promoted teams suffer relegation immediately, a trend Le Bris’ side will hope to buck.

Jobe’s performances this season have been superb, subsequently attracting the attention of European giants such as Dortmund.

Possessing such an elite talent won’t be lost on Sunderland, who know how crucial a role the midfielder could play in the Premier League next year.

The raw potential and game-changing characteristics the teenager possesses may prove invaluable in the top-flight.

Jobe moving on would potentially signal a lack of faith in Sunderland’s ability to stay up, which could have further negative ramifications when attracting other talents to join.

If the 19-year-old does leave the Stadium of Light, the Black Cats may be paid handsomely, but they will struggle to find a profile that matches the unique nature of Jobe.

Dortmund achieved much success with the youngster’s brother, Jude, so will be keen to use their good reputation with the Bellingham family to strong effect.

Time will tell where Jobe ends up, but if Sunderland lose their star man, it could be an early blow to their chances of success next term.
