‘Sunderland to cash in on Dennis Cirkin’ amid £20m Tottenham claim

Dennis Cirkin is being eyed by Tottenham ahead of a potential transfer away from Sunderland.

With the Premier League season less than two months away, Sunderland will be well aware of the need to ramp up their efforts to secure more summer additions, with Enzo Le Fee the only one to have made the move so far.

Several players have been linked with the Black Cats, including highly-rated Danish youth international Clement Bischoff, though plenty of other focus has been on players potentially set to depart from Wearside.

One of those linked with an exit has been Cirkin, with a fresh claim made amid links to his former club, Tottenham.

Tottenham want to re-sign Cirkin this summer

After the departure of Jobe Bellingham and Tommy Watson, Sunderland’s squad is currently worse than it was in the Championship, though it’s highly unlikely that it will remain that way.

However, much of that will hinge on whether or not they can retain the services of their other key players, including Cirkin, who is out of contract this time next year.

The Black Cats want to sign Cirkin to a new deal, but a failure to agree on terms will surely see them start considering a summer exit, in a bid to at least gain financial value, instead of losing him on a free.

With Tottenham linked with a move, Bryan King has suggested that the Wearsiders may set a price tag of around £20million for his services [Tottenham News], though also reiterated that Spurs may be able to find better value for money elsewhere.

Kristjaan Speakman needs to work his magic

Even before any considerations are made over more potential exits, Sunderland have a remarkable amount of work to do this summer in preparation for their return to the Premier League.

Recruitment is already vitally important, and if Cirkin is to leave, it will provide yet another task for Kristjaan Speakman to replace him.
