Sunderland team news vs Aston Villa – Enzo Le Fee update as Luke O’Nien timeline emerges

Sunderland play host to Unai Emery’s Aston Villa this weekend.

The Black Cats are well aware of how important their home form will be this season, and off the back of Sunderland’s 2-1 victory against Brentford last time out at the Stadium of Light, they hold a 100 per cent win ratio.

Aston Villa travel to Wearside to face Sunderland on Sunday, having failed to score a league goal since May.

Regis Le Bris will be hoping to keep that home streak going, with an update on the availability of several first-team players provided.

Enzo Le Fee set to return for Sunderland vs Aston Villa

Enzo Le Fee missed Sunderland’s clash with Crystal Palace, just a week after scoring his first Premier League goal.

In his press conference on Friday, Le Bris said “probably” in response to whether he would feature against Villa, with a similar answer for Dan Ballard.

Ballard has been missing from action since sustaining an injury in the defeat to Burnley, having impressed prior.

Luke O’Nien is “a week or two away” from returning, said Le Bris, while he remained tight-lipped as to whether there are any new concerns ahead of Sunday’s encounter.

The hope will be that the Frenchman can field a full-strength XI at the weekend, and his latest comments suggest that he will be able to.

Sunderland can prove their doubters wrong, again

Le Fee’s return is a massive boost for Sunderland, and it may be a needed one.

Aston Villa are the favourites to beat Sunderland, and Chris Sutton, among others, have also predicted a defeat for the Black Cats.

Quite frankly, it has been the same all season so far, and it will not affect Sunderland whatsoever to be deemed as the underdogs.

If anything, it plays into their hands, and when teams underestimate them, they are often made to pay for it.

Le Bris has showcased his ability to manage games well so far this season, and if the Black Cats can frustrate the Villans in the early stages on Sunday, they have every chance of coming away with another three points.
