Sunderland target Abdul Fatawu once made Championship history at Leicester City

Sunderland are looking to sign Leicester City star Abdul Fatawu in their latest transfer approach.

The Black Cats have heavily recruited this summer, but the spending will not stop yet as a bid has reportedly been made for Fatawu.

The 21-year-old is one of Leicester’s best young players, but he could end up leaving after their relegation to the Championship.

Sunderland are keen on signing the winger, and if they can pull off a deal, they will be recruiting a top prospect who once wrote himself into the history books.

Fatawu broke Championship record with Southampton hat-trick

Sunderland have already signed Simon Adingra and Chemsdine Talbi as wing options, but they clearly want Fatawu as a long-term investment.

The Leicester star has already impressed in the Championship, and his first full season there was a strong one.

The hat-trick made history, as he became the first Ghanaian to score one in the history of the English Championship.

Fatawu ended the game against Southampton, who were also promoted, with three goals and an assist, in a truly remarkable display that showed his ability to play at a very high level.

Sunderland could pull off masterclass with Fatawu signing

While Fatawu may still be somewhat raw, he could prove to be an outstanding long-term addition for Sunderland if they can agree a deal.

At 21, he has a lot of room to grow, and he has impressed with his remarkable speed and creativity, and his dribbling ability ranks among the best of his peers.

Fatawu also has a strong work-rate, and can keep up with the physical demands of the Premier League, despite an injury limiting his minutes last season.

With Leicester not keen on selling Fatawu, it remains to be seen if a deal is possible, but the winger could be a very exciting addition for Regis Le Bris in this remarkable transfer window.
