‘Sunderland take extraordinary gamble’ as Reinildo update emerges

Sunderland’s summer transfer approach has excited supporters, though also emerged as a risk.

This summer has been relentless for the Black Cats, who look set to complete a deal to sign Chemsdine Talbi from Club Brugge.

The 20-year-old is expected to become Sunderland’s fourth confirmed arrival of the summer, with a handful of others believed to be close to making the move.

One of those heavily linked, but not yet announced, has been Reinildo, with a fresh update emerging on his immediate future.

Reinildo set to sign Sunderland contract

Reinildo looks set to become the Black Cats fifth arrival, if the deal for Talbi goes through as expected, and his experience will prove to be crucial.

Rudy Galetti reported on 4 July that the defender will sign a two-year deal with the Wearsiders on Monday, having spent the last few days away on holiday.

Now, on the face of it, it is a great addition that comes with minimal risks, though the biggest one concerns his nationality, with Reinildo expected to represent Mozambique at AFCON towards the end of the year.

However, he won’t be the only one, and it is a big gamble from the Black Cats so far.

AFCON could disrupt Sunderland’s campaign

Reinildo will be joined by Habib Diarra and Noah Sadiki at AFCON this December, and there is a slim chance that Talbi will feature there as well, given his Moroccan connections.

In fact, Enzo Le Fee is the only addition so far who is safe from a Christmas exit, and it could leave Sunderland very short.

Their fixtures over the festive period are hard enough as it is, but Sunderland could be without several of their new additions.

More arrivals are expected, and the Wearsiders need to be aware of the depth they will have once that competition comes around.
