Sunderland supporters ‘to be delighted’ by latest Premier League announcement
Sunderland’s faithful are enjoying life back in the Premier League.
A 3-0 win against West Ham at the Stadium of Light on the opening day of the season, and a summer full of ambitious recruitment and spending; what isn’t there to love about being a Sunderland fan at the moment?
All of the signs on Wearside are certainly positive heading into Sunderland’s away clash with Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
However, things have now got even better after a new announcement was made by the Premier League ahead of the next round of fixtures.

Premier League announce TV schedule for October fixtures
Sunderland supporters will have been used to having games rescheduled in the Championship last season, resulting in very few Saturday 3pm kick-offs.
Now in the Premier League, they are even more rare, but the latest announcement made by the decision makers certainly serves as a boost.
Sunderland will not have any fixtures broadcast live on TV in the UK for October, as confirmed via the Premier League X account on 20 August, meaning there is little chance of games being moved.
Sunderland’s fixtures on TV in September
- Sunderland vs Aston Villa – Sunday 21 September, 2pm KO
- Nottingham Forest vs Sunderland – Saturday 27 September, 5:30pm KO
While TV money is certainly a massive part of finances for Premier League clubs, fans often get fed up of seeing their team have fixtures moved, often at unreasonable times, just to suit the needs of broadcasters.
Come the end of October, Sunderland will have had just two fixtures selected for live broadcast compared to the likes of Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, who will have seen eight fixtures moved.
How much money does TV broadcast bring to Premier League clubs?
In the 2023/24 season, Premier League clubs made around £86.7million from broadcasting deals, with £31.2m of that arriving domestically.
Those who feature more earn more, and the difference can be considerable; figures have likely risen even higher for the current campaign.
For example, Arsenal received an additional £26.9m that season for their involvement on TV, while Burnley, who featured significantly less, only received an extra £9.3m
Back in July, Dan Plumley exclusively told Mackem News: “You’re guaranteed nowadays £105-110million from TV cash, even if you finish bottom.”
