Sunderland supporters fume at ‘shocking’ Premier League rule

Premier League football will serve up several minor setbacks for Sunderland off the pitch.

The Black Cats are just days away from making their long-awaited return to the Premier League, as Graham Potter’s West Ham make the trip to the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland will be well aware of the task that awaits them in their quest to avoid relegation back to the Championship, but will also be well aware of several rules they will have to abide by going forward.

Plenty of those rules revolve around kits, and it’s fair to say that Sunderland fans aren’t overly pleased with the way Hummel have gone about adhering to those.

Premier League rules block stripes on back of a shirt

There are many strange rules in the Premier League, but Sunderland have certainly fallen victim to one of the strangest ones this summer.

Clubs are unable to wear stripes on the back of their shirt in order to make their names and numbers more visible, and Hummel seemingly hadn’t planned for this when manufacturing the Black Cats’ home kit for the year.

As a result, the Wearsiders have had to adopt a white panel on the back of their shirt, and supporters are not overly keen on the way it looks, with one slamming the “shocking” rule.

Sunderland’s kit will be forgotten if survival is achieved

If Sunderland avoid relegation this season, they will become the first promoted team to have done so over the last three seasons, showcasing the magnitude of the task that awaits them and Regis Le Bris.

Added to that, it would make people forget entirely about the way the kit looked and instead look ahead to the future.

With 38 games to be played, more signings to arrive, and plenty of twists along the way, Sunderland have much more important things to be concerned about.
