Sunderland fans fume as agreement reached at Stadium of Light – ‘Disappointing’

Sunderland’s latest announcement has caused quite the stir on social media.

At this stage in the year, all eyes are on Sunderland‘s social media channels, with plenty of announcements expected to be made throughout the summer.

Of course, most of them will be recruitment-oriented, and with several players said to be closing in on a move to the Stadium of Light, it may only be a matter of time until the Black Cats confirm their second summer arrival.

However, the latest reveal has nothing to do with the transfer side of the summer, and instead, a new partnership has been confirmed by the club.

Sunderland set for another betting sponsor in Premier League

As important as recruitment will be for Sunderland, there are several off-field matters that will also play a huge role in the success that they can find next season.

Generating revenue will be key, and with the influx of TV finances, matched with the £200million earned from promotion, the Black Cats will be looking to maximise every opportunity that they can, though fans will not always agree with it.

That is because Sunderland have just announced that they have reached an agreement that will see W88 become their new shirt sponsor for the season, causing uproar among the fanbase.

Betting sponsors will be banned next season in the Premier League, leaving clubs with one season to make the most of the finances involved, though the fact that this is an unlicensed betting company has led to some similar remarks.

Premier League rules need to be enforced strongly

As good as the financial gain is from having a betting sponsor, the ethical loss massively outweighs it.

Gambling in football is a serious concern, and by having it highlighted on the front of most football shirts does nothing but attract more eyes to the dark side of the betting world.

With a ban set to be in place next season in the Premier League, the hope will be that clubs can start turning their attention back to their own community and supporting local businesses with sponsorships of their own.
