Sunderland strike Lutsharel Geertruida agreement on deadline day as medical details shared
Sunderland have agreed a deal to sign Lutsharel Geertruida from RB Leipzig.
Sunderland have had a historic transfer window so far, signing 12 players upon their return to the Premier League, although Chelsea have since recalled Marc Guiu from his loan deal.
Geertruida is set to arrive at Sunderland just a year after signing for Leipzig, as he fell out of favour quickly under new boss Ole Werner.
It represents another major coup for Sunderland, who have been busy in Germany with a deal for Granit Xhaka this summer as well.

Lutsharel Geertruida deal to Marseille off as medical details revealed
Geerturida looked as though he was set to sign for Marseille, but that deal has now fallen through, which has allowed Sunderland to swoop in for the Dutch defender.
David Ornstein has shared that an agreement is in place for Geertruida to move to Sunderland on a loan deal with an option to buy.
Geertruida will complete his medical today as Sunderland look to secure deals for both the Dutch defender and Ajax’s Brian Brobbey, who will replace the outgoing Guiu.
Marseille had agreed personal terms with Geertruida, but Sunderland have managed to get in the Dutch defender just in time.
Geertruida to compete with Trai Hume for minutes
Trai Hume has been a terrific servant for Sunderland during their years in the lower leagues and helped Sunderland return to the Premier League with an incredible defensive performance in the play-off final against Sheffield United.
Hume will now need to keep up his performances in the Premier League to keep the Dutch defender out of the lineup, with the stats suggesting Geertruida is the better defensive fullback.

Sunderland have made a brilliant start to the Premier League season with wins over West Ham United and Brentford, and their window has suggested they’re here to stay.
