Sunderland star bids farewell as summer exit announced – ‘Thank you’

Sunderland announced the exit of several players on Wednesday, with one taking to social media to thank supporters.

Summer is the season of transfers, and for Sunderland at the moment, the season of exits.

After it was confirmed that Chris Mepham would be returning to Bournemouth after his loan spell at the Stadium of Light, the Black Cats announced the exits of several others.

Of course, most of the focus this window will be on the players that Sunderland can attract to Wearside, but a close eye will also be kept on those seeking greener pastures this summer.

Jobe Bellingham could be next out the door on Wearside

Despite the euphoria of returning to the Premier League, much of the focus on Wearside has been on the future of those who aided the Black Cats back to the top flight.

Most of which has been on Jobe Bellingham, who looks all but set for a move to Borussia Dortmund ahead of the Club World Cup, though several other exits have been announced prior.

Ben Crompton is one of several players who will not have their contracts extended for the new campaign, with the defender taking to X to share a message to supporters.

His post reads: “Thank you, everyone involved with Sunderland, for being my home for the last three years and having a major role in my development. Looking forward to my next chapter.”

Crompton spent part of the last campaign on loan at Tamworth FC, where he featured against Tottenham in the FA Cup.

Regis Le Bris needs to see plenty of transfer activity

With players leaving, Sunderland will free up some extra room for wages to conclude some of their own incoming business.

Now that Enzo Le Fee is a permanent Black Cat, their summer business is underway, but in order to have a fighting chance of surviving in the Premier League, several more incomings will be needed in what promises to be a hectic period.

Sunderland supporters will be hoping to see a couple more arrive at the Stadium of Light in the next seven days, before the transfer window closes for a brief period.
