Sunderland ‘should hijack Brentford transfer’ for star Regis Le Bris knows well

Sunderland have already made several high-profile moves this summer.

Sunderland have brought Granit Xhaka back to the Premier League after his remarkable spell in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen.

They have also beaten Leeds to the signing of Habib Diarra, while the likes of Noah Sadiki and Marc Guiu have chosen the North East giants over their relegation rivals.

However, they could pull off an even more audacious move before the deadline, and reunite Regis Le Bris with a former player.

Sunderland could spark Le Bris reunion with Ouattara

Le Bris worked with Bournemouth star Dango Ouattara in his previous role at Lorient, playing a huge role in his development into a Premier League star.

Sky Sports reporter Mark McAdam claimed on 8 August that the Burkinabe international has told the Cherries that he wants to explore his options.

He stated that interest from Brentford has sparked the decision, and the South Coast club have received multiple enquiries.

Ouattara could choose Sunderland due to Le Bris links

If the Mackems launch an approach for Ouattara, he may be tempted to join the newly-promoted side due to his history with Le Bris.

The French manager, who recently signed a new contract with Sunderland, gave the Cherries star his major chance in the senior team with the Ligue 1 outfit.

The winger started all but one game under Le Bris in the time that they overlapped with the French club, and he notched six goals and six assists in 18 appearances in that spell.

Kristjaan Speakman has done a solid job in terms of recruitment at the Stadium of Light, but they still need more firepower, and Ouattara has proven top-flight pedigree.

He notched seven goals and four assists in the division last season, and that could end up being the difference between survival and relegation back to the Championship.

It will be a tough campaign for the Mackems, but if they can bring a player that Le Bris is familiar with and has already adapted to the elite level of the English game, it would be another great signing and boost their chances of staying up.
