Jordan Henderson has been linked with a return to boyhood club Sunderland this summer.

Sunderland have shocked plenty with the level of ambition shown in their summer transfer business so far, having shown no signs of slowing down.

Simon Adingra looks set to become the Black Cats’ sixth summer signing, after a fee was agreed with Brighton after interest in January.

Next, Regis Le Bris’ side are looking to inject some experience into their youthful squad, and according to reports abroad, they look set to do so.

Henderson set for Premier League return

When people talk about the most successful players in the history of English football, it is hard to look beyond the illustrious career of Henderson, who won just about everything there is to win with Liverpool.

After his exit from Merseyside, a spell in Saudi Arabia would ensue, before the veteran midfielder went on to play a crucial role at Ajax, with his exit from the Dutch side now confirmed.

However, in what appears to be a major boost for the Black Cats, a report via O JOGO (9 July) now states that the 35-year-old “will return to England to play for Sunderland”, having briefly been mooted as a target for FC Porto.

It seems as though his move to the Stadium of Light will go through, and it will be an emotional one, given his previous time at the club as a youngster.

Sunderland may stay up this season, and they may very well face an immediate relegation to the Championship.

However, no one will be able to question the level of ambition they have shown this summer, with their transfer spend already surpassing the £100million mark.

It is an exciting time on Wearside, and the return of Henderson will only amplify that feeling ahead of the Premier League campaign.
