‘Sunderland set for £120m boost’ after latest promotion reveal – Exclusive
Sunderland will be due a healthy windfall if they are successful in their attempts to win promotion.
Sunderland travel to face Coventry on Friday evening, in the first of two semi-final playoff legs, with either Sheffield United or Bristol City awaiting the winner at Wembley.
The Black Cats enter the game in horrible form, and their record against Coventry does very little to spark optimism, but that winless run will have to end if they are to achieve promotion.
If that scenario plays out as those on Wearside would like it to, the Mackems will be due a huge influx of cash as a result.

Premier League finances would do wonders for Sunderland
Sunderland have been steady away when it comes to finances over the recent period, but promotion would significantly boost their books.
Dan Plumley, a finance expert, told Mackem News about the potential monetary reward if the Black Cats can make it back into the top flight.
“The promotion’s worth a minimum of £120million to a club that’s not been there for a number of years, in Sunderland’s case here,” Plumley said.
Head-to-head | W | D | L |
Sunderland | 12 | 18 | 18 |
Coventry | 18 | 18 | 12 |
“Most of that again is TV money, so you’re guaranteed 100 million at least, even if you finish bottom, and then we’re talking about again how you can leverage commercial contracts and and sign bigger deals to get you to the 120 minimum, there will be a little bit of an uplift on that from the new TV deal, but we haven’t seen the numbers yet, so let’s work on 120 million minimum as the number that we know.
“We’ll see the new TV figures in a year or so’s time, and what that’s worth, so you can uplift that a little bit, but either way for Sunderland, a significant revenue uplift on where they’ve been for the last few years, having not been in the Premier League for a while, if it were to go their way in the playoffs.”

Sunderland need promotion from Championship
Not only will promotion determine who stays and who leaves Sunderland, but the potential financial ramifications are huge.
Sunderland need to overcome their horrid record against the Sky Blues first, with the clash at the CBS arena due to take place on Friday 6 May at 8pm GMT.
