Sunderland sanction loan agreement with David Beckham-owned club

Sunderland have enjoyed a busy summer transfer window and they could be about to conclude their next piece of business.

The Black Cats have already confirmed six signings ahead of their return to the Premier League, with plenty more still expected to come before the big kick-off on 16 August.

Bafode Diakite is the latest man to draw attention from Sunderland, as the Wearsiders seem set to stretch their summer spending even further in the next few weeks.

Their focus will undoubtedly be on strengthening Regis Le Bris’ squad before their top-flight return, but there will also need to be players who are moved on before the end of the summer.

Matty Young to decide on Salford City loan this week

Matty Young is thought to have a huge future ahead of him at Sunderland, and he could be about to head out on loan once again next term.

The young goalkeeper caught the eye during a spell in League Two with Salford City last season, and his performances in the fourth tier reaffirmed the Black Cats’ lofty expectations for him.

The shot stopper seems destined to head back out to Salford, with Sunderland having already given permission for him to spend the 2025/26 campaign with the Ammies, according to the print edition of The Sun on Sunday (20 July, pg. 57).

With his parent club already giving the green light to the move, it is now up to Young whether he wants to return to the side who are owned by David Beckham.

The 18-year-old will surely be hopeful of another fruitful stint this term, and he is expected to reach a decision on his future at some point this week.

Another loan spell at Salford will be good for Young

Young’s performances were rewarded with a new contract by Sunderland back in November, and another agreement with Salford seems like a move that benefits all parties.

He was excellent for the Greater Manchester outfit last term, and even had to overcome a battle for his place in the side at times.

The experienced Jamie Jones briefly overtook him as the number one throughout February and into the early part of March, but Young’s ability prevailed, and he was reinstated as the starting option by Karl Robinson for the crucial stages of his team’s battle for a play-off spot.

Young quickly established himself as one of the best ‘keepers in the division, and enjoyed a remarkable run of seven clean sheets from eight league games across December and early January.

There may be an argument that the starlet could be ready to take the step up to League One, but continuity and an environment that can bring the best out of a player can often be crucial where youngsters are concerned.

The gloveman performed well at Salford last term, and Sunderland will have high hopes once again if he does get another loan stint with the Ammies.
