Sunderland respond to Romaine Mundle approach as stance revealed
Sunderland have rejected an approach from Toulouse for winger Romaine Mundle.
Mundle is one of the few players left from Sunderland’s Championship days, though even he has suffered from a lack of gametime this season.
Injuries have played a part in that, though the former Tottenham winger has also fallen down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light.
Rangers were linked with a move in January, though with the Black Cats already having maxed out their number of international loans, a deal was not possible.
However, Mundle could leave Sunderland this summer, with Toulouse interested in a deal.
Toulouse’s stance on Romaine Mundle
A report from Santi Aouna states that Ligue 1 side Toulouse had an initial approach rejected by the Wearsiders earlier this week.
However, they are expected to return to the table, with it not yet known if it would be a permanent sale or a loan.
| Sunderland | Mundle |
| Games | 52 |
| Goals | 6 |
| Assists | 2 |
| Years left on deal | 2 |
Either would work for Sunderland, given the fact that he has two years left on his contract at the Stadium of Light, affording them some breathing space in that regard.

The Black Cats do, however, require homegrown players for their Europa League campaign, which may change their stance on his future, depending on the business they have lined up
Mundle’s Premier League stats point towards Sunderland exit
Mundle was excellent when fit in the Championship, but staying that way was often his biggest downfall.
He made just 25 appearances in the promotion-winning season, with seven goal involvements.
Those appearances dropped to 16 in the season just finished, where he failed to register a single goal or assist, while also creating just one chance in the Premier League.
There were some positive signs from his cameos, but perhaps not enough to warrant his stay on Wearside.
But for that reason alone, a loan may make the most sense, giving Sunderland an extra year to assess his long-term future, knowing that he has the potential to be a success here.
