Le Bris shares if he expects Sunderland to face punishment after Luton melee
Regis Le Bris has shared that he doesn’t expect Sunderland to be punished for an incident that occurred after their victory against Luton Town.
Goals from Chris Rigg and Romaine Mundle secured a crucial victory for Sunderland on Wednesday (23 October) in a game that sparked controversy.
An incident after the full-time whistle that initially started with Chris Mepham and Thomas Kaminski very quickly turned into a melee between several players, but Le Bris doesn’t expect Sunderland to face punishment.
In quotes reported by The Sunderland Echo [25 October], the Frenchman said when asked if he expects retrospective action: “I don’t think so.
“It’s an emotional reaction. I don’t think we need to be punished. Everyone was calm one minute later so no problem.
“It’s still emotional this kind of game. I have no problem. We protected our players and we need to keep our calm in this situation. It’s normal to have this reaction and at the end everyone was okay.”
Sunderland unlikely to face punishment after Luton Town win
The melee at the end of the game seemed fairly innocuous. The encounter saw tensions rise and spill over at the end.
Aside from Luke O’Nien re-inventing the famous Jimmy Bullard leapfrog, Sunderland players weren’t really involved at all.
Whether the FA investigate or not is yet to be seen but it could spell trouble for Luton if so.
Goalkeeper Kaminski instigated the brawl, seemingly pushing his head into the face of Mepham before the cavalry arrived.
Jordan Clark also appeared to slap the face of O’Nien. These two incidents are certainly the most likely to face punishment if any at all.
While unnecessary, it demonstrated the comradery in this Sunderland side who are willing to fight for each other to achieve the best for the club. Both literally and metaphorically.
With the Black Cats leading the charge at the top of the table, it is vital that the squad are able to stick together and continue to grow as a team.
