Sunderland ready to replace Patterson as Riznyk transfer approach made
Sunderland have spent heavily following their return to the Premier League, and this looks set to continue.
Six new signings have arrived at the Stadium of Light in recent weeks, but a new goalkeeper is yet to join despite being coveted.
Sunderland want a new number one to usurp Anthony Patterson next season, despite some impressive performances from the homegrown star.
The Premier League will provide a tough challenge, and Shakhtar Donetsk goalkeeper Dmytro Riznyk has now been targeted to help the Black Cats survive.

Sunderland approach Shakhtar for Riznyk
Sunderland are aiming to sign a more experienced goalkeeper than Patterson, and have identified Riznyk as a possible replacement.
Riznyk is currently Shakhtar’s number one and has impressed at the Ukrainian side since joining from Vorskla Poltava two years ago.
The 26-year-old has made 14 UEFA Champions League appearances and faced top-quality opposition in Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in the last two seasons.

While no concrete bid has been made, Fabrizio Romano has now reported via X (26 July) that Sunderland have made an enquiry to Shakhtar over the deal conditions for Riznyk.
Shakhtar have sold a lot of players to the Premier League in recent years, with Manchester United buying Fred and Chelsea signing Mykhaylo Mudryk, and they have proven to be difficult negotiators during these deals.
Sunderland are right to want a goalkeeper
Although Patterson fared well in the Championship last season, Sunderland face a tough battle to stay in the top flight, and upgrades are needed in every area.
A top-quality goalkeeper could be the difference between survival and relegation, and with a lot of money spent in midfield, it is worth signing a new shotstopper.
Djordje Petrovic was admired before his move to Bournemouth, but while a Premier League-experienced goalkeeper could be ideal, potentially landing Riznyk as he heads into his prime years could be a masterstroke.
Riznyk has only conceded 77 goals in 78 games for Shakhtar, but will be in a much less dominant team if he does join Regis Le Bris’ side this summer.
