Sunderland reach Marc Guiu agreement with Chelsea after transfer speculation

Marc Guiu’s time as a Sunderland player has already come to an end.

Sunderland are set for a busy deadline day regardless, with two new arrivals expected at the Stadium of Light before the 7pm deadline on Monday.

However, fears started to grow when it was claimed that Chelsea were considering recalling Guiu to cover for the injury to Liam Delap.

It seemed like a non-starter, given the need for attacking arrivals on Wearside, but the latest update showcases otherwise.

Sunderland now need to sign another striker as Marc Guiu returns to Chelsea

As reported by Matt Law on X, Chelsea and Sunderland have come to an agreement that will see Guiu return to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues did not have a break clause in the deal, though it was widely reported that it could be cancelled if the Black Cats agreed to it.

As to the terms of it, it remains unknown, though it can only be assumed that Sunderland have been offered something worthwhile if they were willing to sanction his exit.

It leaves Regis Le Bris with just Eliezer Mayenda and Wilson Isidor, who scored the winning goal last time out for Sunderland against Brentford.

Florent Ghisolfi and co have impressed with Sunderland’s business so far this summer, though they now face a huge test to get the necessary additions before Monday’s deadline.

Sunderland now need to sign two attackers

Guiu was the third striker at the Stadium of Light, which subdued concerns over the need for another one to arrive before the end of the window.

However, it is now essential that Sunderland bring one in, whether that be a loan or a permanent move.

Lois Openda has been linked with a move to the Stadium of Light, and efforts to bring him to Wearside could be accelerated on Monday as a result of the agreement with Chelsea.

It’s now promising to be a hectic deadline day for the Black Cats, who will be no strangers to the stress and intensity that comes with it.
