Sunderland reach agreement for Granit Xhaka transfer as Leverkusen demands made
Granit Xhaka could be set to become Sunderland’s seventh signing of the summer.
Sunderland’s transfer window has surpassed expectations already, and with just under a month until the new season gets underway, time is still on their side to secure more new arrivals.
An outlay of over £100million has been utilised by Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, who is showing his ambitions at the Stadium of Light ahead of the Black Cats’ return to the Premier League, and will keep doing so after the latest update on the future of Xhaka.

Xhaka wants Sunderland move
Xhaka only recently won the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen, making the initial links to Sunderland seem overly ambitious.
However, David Ornstein has now reported via X (22 July) that the Black Cats have reached an agreement for his transfer, with the Swiss international now demanding that they close the deal rapidly.
Sunderland | Signed from |
Simon Adingra | Brighton |
Chemsdine Talbi | Club Brugge |
Noah Sadiki | Union Saint-Gilloise |
Habib Diarra | Strasbourg |
Reinildo | Atletico Madrid (free) |
Enzo Le Fee | Roma |
The 32-year-old boasts a wealth of experience at the top level and would be the perfect addition to a very youthful Sunderland side.
Negotiations remain ongoing between all parties, though it looks as though this transfer could be the next one that gets completed at the Stadium of Light.
Xhaka would transform Sunderland
Xhaka would be a remarkable signing for almost any Premier League club outside of the top six, and for Sunderland to be looking to seal a deal shows just how far they want to push on this season.
The Black Cats lack experience, certainly in midfield, and his addition will subdue those concerns immediately, whilst also injecting some serious quality into the side.
Sunderland will be hoping for a swift resolution to this deal, and if it can be finalised, it would be a major coup for Le Bris’ side.
