Sunderland Championship promotion chances revealed by latest Supercomputer prediction
Sunderland are predicted to miss out on automatic promotion this season with just a 7.92 per cent chance of winning the Championship title, according to Opta Analyst’s Supercomputer.
Since the arrival of Regis Le Bris on Wearside, Sunderland have impressed more often than not and have warranted their spot at the top of the Championship.
Despite sitting at the top, a Opta-powered Supercomputer (19 November) has predicted that the Black Cats have just a 7.92 per cent chance of finishing there come the end of the season.
In fact, Sunderland are predicted to drop down to fourth, behind Burnley and Sheffield United.
With that said, on a more promising note, the Black Cats are then predicted to have the highest chance of winning promotion via the playoffs, with Opta giving Sunderland a 57.96 per cent chance of achieving it.
Top six finish would be deemed successful for Sunderland
Taking into account various factors, the youthfulness of the side, Le Bris’ first season in England as well as the nightmare season the Black Cats endured last time out, very few expected them to be top of the table come November.
However, they are and it is a testament to the work done by everyone involved at the club.
With the strength of the teams around them and the financial capabilities, it would still be seen as a good season for the Wearsiders if they were to remain inside the top six although failure to get promoted would be seen as a disappointment.
The work done by Le Bris has been nothing short of phenomenal and his role in the development of players has been crucial.

Players like Chris Rigg and Jobe Bellingham have thrived under the Frenchman with the latter constantly being monitored by Borussia Dortmund according to the Sun (10 November).
With a difficult run of fixtures approaching for the Black Cats, their promotion credentials may be put to the test.
