Sunderland stars send emotional messages as Marc Guiu says goodbye and seals Chelsea return
Marc Guiu’s short spell at Sunderland came to an end on deadline day.
Deadline day was manic on Wearside, with three new arrivals matched with a whole host of exits, though the majority of the latter were on loan.
However, after Sunderland reached an agreement with Chelsea on Sunday, Guiu returned to Stamford Bridge, having made just three appearances for the Black Cats.
Guiu’s farewell post to Sunderland supporters spoke volumes about the current feeling around the club, and that was echoed by the replies of several first-team players.
Marc Guiu clearly had a big impact at Sunderland
Aside from Guiu’s goal against Huddersfield in the Carabao Cup, he had very little impact on the pitch for Sunderland, though he seemingly had a much bigger one off of it.
Players have jumped straight to the comment section of the 19-year-old’s Instagram post to send their farewell messages, including Noah Sadiki, who certainly saw the funny side of the situation.
How Sunderland players reacted to his early exit
- Noah Sadiki: “Thanks for the two weeks, Marcito”
- Reinildo: “It’s been a pleasure to share that time with you, my brother. I wish you all the luck in the world. Things change in a snap of your fingers, you keep fighting and scoring goals, my brother. I already miss you.”
- Wilson Isidor: “All the best, bro.”
- Chris Rigg: “Good luck, bro.”
Leo Hjelde, Dan Neil, Habib Diarra, and Luke O’Nien are just some of the players who have liked the post, showcasing the morale with Guiu.
His exit certainly raised concern, though that was quickly subdued when Sunderland snapped up Ajax striker Brian Brobbey the following morning.

Sunderland may have got the better deal with Marc Guiu
Guiu had very little senior experience, and that was one of the concerns raised when he first made the move to the Stadium of Light.
Brobbey, on the other hand, has made 131 senior appearances for Ajax and eight for the Netherlands.
- 131 appearances
- 43 goals
- 22 assists
The 23-year-old is known for his strength on and off the ball, which is something Sunderland have lacked in their frontline for some time now.
With Eliezer Mayenda and Wilson Isidor both proving their worth in the top flight, Regis Le Bris has somewhat of a headache heading into the next clash against Crystal Palace.
Isidor has earned a chance in Sunderland’s starting 11 after scoring the winner against Brentford, meaning Brobbey may have to wait for his chance to showcase his ability in the Premier League.
