This is how Sunderland could make Premier League history
Sunderland’s transfer business has raised eyebrows so far this summer.
With news of an agreement for Marc Guiu, Sunderland are closing in on their ninth summer addition ahead of their return to the Premier League.
Robin Roefs looks set to become the eighth, with both expected to be announced within the next 48 hours, and potentially in time for their clash with Real Betis on Saturday (2 August).
However, not only has their business impressed this summer, but it could also set a new Premier League record should it continue as expected.

Sunderland spending set to mark Premier League milestone
So far, the Black Cats have spent £113million this summer, with the addition of Roefs set to increase that to £124m by the end of the week.
That in itself is a showcase of the ambition set by Kryil Louis-Dreyfus, but it goes much deeper than that.

Currently, Nottingham Forest hold the record for the most money spent by a newly-promoted side, having spent £134m back in the 2022/23 campaign.
It seems almost nailed on that the Black Cats will break that record this summer, and make Premier League history by doing so.

Who else do Sunderland need to sign?
With Guiu’s arrival imminent, the last area that Sunderland need to make serious improvements to is their defence, with several targets already identified to satisfy those needs.
A dominant centre-half is an absolute must for the Wearsiders, who will then likely turn their attention to bolstering the depth that they have, with several players set for AFCON in December.
With the season underway in just over two weeks, the Black Cats will likely bring one or two more faces to Wearside in that time, though they have until 1 September to conclude any more transfer business.
