Sunderland news round-up: Mitrovic offer as Guiu transfer delay continues
Sunderland have enjoyed a fantastic transfer window at the Stadium of Light.
Regis Le Bris‘ side have spent the ninth-highest amount of money out of all European clubs this summer, and have significantly added to their midfield.
Concerns had been raised about two key positions, but the Black Cats now look to be prioritising strengthening them. Here, Mackem News rounds up all the latest news coming out of Wearside.

Sunderland can address concerns by signing Nayef Aguerd
Some supporters have been quick to point out Sunderland’s lack of defensive reinforcement and lack of Premier League experience.
However, the Mackems look to be back in the race for Moroccan centre back Nayef Aguerd as they continue to try and bolster their defence.
Le Bris’ side had been interested in the defender earlier in the window but have so far yet to make a move. The Black Cats have been on the lookout for defenders after Chris Mepham returned to Bournemouth.

Marc Guiu delay could open the door for Gonzalo Garcia signing
An agreement has been reached with Chelsea for Marc Guiu to move to Sunderland on loan, with a medical booked in for the Spaniard.
However, the striker’s flight to the North East was cancelled, presumably due to weather conditions.
Though he is still expected to link up with Le Bris, the Mackems could have a change of heart and go back in for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Garcia.
Madrid had been reluctant to let Garcia leave, but it is now appearing that a loan deal could be facilitated with the Spaniard likely to have limited gametime next season.
Aleksandar Mitrovic offered to Premier League clubs
Sunderland look set to continue their spending spree this summer by adding more attackers.
Chelsea’s Guiu is still expected to join the Mackems, but Le Bris’ side will have to tie more strikers to the club if they are to have enough firepower up front.
Al Hilal forward Aleksandar Mitrovic has been offered to Premier League clubs, including Sunderland, and the Black Cats could pounce on the move.
- Le Bris will need to add more support for Wilson Isidor up front
- The Mackems are yet to add a striker, with Isidor and Eliezer Mayenda the only strike options
The 30-year-old has managed 68 goals in 79 appearances since making the switch from Premier League side Fulham to Al Hilal in 2023.
Of course, the Serbia international previously represented Newcastle and called himself a ‘Geordie boy’, via The Standard (9 February 2023), so could be against a move to Wearside.
