Sunderland must sign Guiu after new Chelsea transfer update

Sunderland have recruited well in the transfer window so far, but more players could still arrive.

Regis Le Bris’ side are set to return to the Premier League for the first time since 2017, and are aiming to stay there, with six new signings already through the door.

Sunderland have shown ambition by bringing in young and talented players, but there is a risk as very few players in their squad have experience in England’s top-flight.

Several wingers have arrived, including Simon Adingra, but another centre-forward could be very useful for depth, and the perfect loan opportunity may have now opened up.

Chelsea will loan Marc Guiu out

Premier League giants Chelsea signed striker Marc Guiu from Barcelona a year ago, but he has had limited opportunities at Stamford Bridge.

The young attacker was a hugely promising talent at Barcelona, scored on his La Liga debut, and is regarded as a top prospect for the future.

When given a chance last season, Guiu scored in the Europa Conference League, with six goals in seven games, and was given three appearances in the league.

Fabrizio Romano has now reported (24 July) that Chelsea are set to loan Guiu out this summer, but want the Spaniard to remain in England to gain more experience, and this could make Sunderland the perfect destination.

Sunderland and Guiu could benefit from a loan

Sunderland currently have Wilson Isidor and Eliezer Mayender as centre-forward options, and adding another attacker to the roster alongside them could be of benefit.

Guiu would arrive as an inexperienced forward, but one who has shown his goalscoring potential, and can add height to the attack at 1.87 metres tall.

The Mackems have spent heavily this summer, and it is unclear how much is now available to invest in another striker, making a loan potentially ideal.

With Chelsea unwilling to sanction an option to buy, there will be no obligation to give Guiu extended opportunities if he does not impress, but he could prove to be a useful addition at a low cost to gain more experience and help add more firepower to the Sunderland attack.
