Sunderland most likely 2025-26 Premier League position predicted already

Sunderland are gearing up to play Premier League football for the first time in eight years.

Pre-season predictions are a hot topic with football fans up and down the country looking forward to the new season.

Fans of the North East club, however, may not agree with where the bookies have their club finishing next season.

Sunderland tipped for Premier League struggle

The betting firms have quickly made the newly promoted Black Cats huge favourites to go straight back down, with the odds stacked firmly against them.

As per Oddschecker (27 May), Sunderland are 2/5 for relegation, numbers that paint a clear and challenging picture on Wearside.

These odds have Sunderland, who Micah Richards fears for, sitting at rock bottom of the Premier League.

The bookies also have fellow promotion winners Burnley and Leeds United tipped for relegation as well.

It’s a common refrain for teams stepping up, but it undeniably hammers home just how incredibly tough it is to stay in the Premier League and shows the large gap appearing between them and the rest of English football.

If there are any positive Sunderland fans out there, however, the odds of the Black Cats getting Champions League are 200/1.

Why are the odds against Sunderland?

The recent history of teams moving up to the Premier League isn’t great, as many clubs have found it really tough to stay there.

They often struggle to get enough points and score enough goals, as in the last two seasons, all three promoted teams have gone straight back down.

Football experts often point out the big differences between the Championship and the Premier League; the top tier is much faster, the players more skilful, and the money involved dwarfs the budget of Championship teams.

The rigorous demands, tactical sophistication, and unforgiving nature of Premier League opposition mean that every mistake is punished, and even small errors can prove costly.

This is a chance for the proud North East club to show everyone they belong at the top level and can prove the doubters wrong.

History has shown that some teams can defy the odds, and Sunderland will be hoping to write their own success story.
