Sunderland make new Robin Roefs announcement after what happened vs Crystal Palace

Robin Roefs was instrumental in Sunderland’s away clash against Crystal Palace.

Saturday’s encounter at Selhurst Park saw Sunderland pick up their first away point of the season against Crystal Palace in a 0-0 draw.

Roefs’ heroics played a huge part in Sunderland’s well-earned draw, as did Nordi Mukiele’s.

Mukiele earned praise from Alan Shearer for his involvement in the game, with Sunderland making a new announcement regarding Roefs after what the Dutchman did.

Robin Roefs nominated for Premier League Player of the Week

Troy Deeney somehow omitted Roefs from his Team of the Week, even though the 22-year-old made six crucial saves against the Eagles last time out.

Instead, he opted for Gianluigi Donnarumma, who was forced into just two saves against Man United at the weekend.

However, Roefs‘ contributions haven’t gone unnoticed, with Sunderland announcing via X on 16 September that the keeper has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Week award.

Erling Haaland, Emi Martinez and Martin Zubimendi also feature among the list of candidates, with the latter having scored twice from midfield in a 3-0 win for Arsenal.

As showcased by his display, Roefs is going to have a huge role to play for Sunderland this season, and he could be the difference between staying up and not.

Robin Roefs game by numbers vs Crystal Palace

Roefs’ shot-stopping ability was on full show at Selhurst Park, though he thrived in all aspects of his game for the Black Cats.

Via Sofascore, the Dutchman prevented 1.36 goals with his six saves in the clash, four of which were from inside the box.

His two high claims showed his willingness to come off his line and challenge for the ball, and with one punch, he dealt well with any aerial threat.

With a 74 per cent pass accuracy, his distributions were on point, and that was often the concern people had over Anthony Patterson last season.

Sunderland have a gem with Roefs, and long may these performances continue.
