Sunderland make new Mundle decision ahead of Adingra arrival

Sunderland are closing in on the signing of Brighton winger Simon Adingra.

Adingra was a target for the Black Cats in the January transfer window, but they have now secured their man as he will soon confirm his move.

Sunderland are active in the transfer window, and Adingra will be the second winger to arrive in July after Club Brugge star Chemsdine Talbi joined this week.

With two wingers joining, questions have been asked over the future of Romaine Mundle, but the club have now made a decision over whether they will allow him to leave.

Sunderland in talks over Mundle contract

Sunderland have now decided to step up their efforts to keep Mundle at the club, and have now offered him a new contract.

Sky Sports (July 10) have now reported that with PSV Eindhoven considering a move for Mundle, Sunderland are eager to keep him despite this interest.

The 22-year-old has three years left on his deal, but Sunderland want to extend this to ward off any interest in him.

Mundle missed a chunk of last season through injury, but is still regarded as a key player at the Stadium of Light, and will compete with Talbi and Adingra for a starting spot.

Sunderland need to keep Mundle after Tommy Watson exit

Although Sunderland have signed two wingers in addition to Mundle, this is offset by the fact that Tommy Watson has joined Brighton.

Watson was in and out of the team towards the end of last season, but was the hero in the play-off final as he scored the winning goal.

Losing Watson meant that two wingers were already a necessity, and in Adingra, they have landed an option who has Premier League experience.

Mundle’s injury issues means that he cannot be relied upon as the main starting option without any depth, and a wing roster including him and the two new signings is a strong one.

The former Tottenham youngster has scored six goals in 36 games for Sunderland and will now hope to kick on next season.
