Sunderland ‘make correct Adil Aouchiche decision’ with record exit on cards
Sunderland are undergoing a wildly different summer to anything they have experienced in close to a decade.
Promotion to the Premier League has triggered substantial spending, with Habib Diarra the standout Sunderland signing at £30million.
However, their achievement will have significant repercussions for some of their fringe players, with several expected to move on.
Now, there has been an update on Adil Aouchiche’s future, as his future seems to lie away from the Stadium of Light, joining Aberdeen on loan.

Aouchiche seals move from Sunderland to Aberdeen
Aouchiche spent the second half of last season on loan with Portsmouth after finding starting opportunities sparse under Regis Le Bris.
The 22-year-old made 12 appearances for Pompey, with the majority of those coming as starts under John Mousinho.
| Adil Aouchiche’s 2024/25 Championship statistics | Total |
| Appearances (starts) | 20 (12) |
| Goals | 1 |
| Assists | 2 |
| Big chances created | 3 |
| Touches | 29 |
| Accurate passes | 11.9 (74%) |
While the Frenchman may have had a part to play next season, Sunderland’s promotion to the Premier League has altered things.
Now, Sunderland have confirmed (6 July) that Aouchiche has joined Aberdeen on a season-long loan.
Furthermore, the Scottish Premiership side have the option to buy him for £1.5million before next summer, according to the Daily Record (6 July).
If that goes through, then Aouchiche would become the most expensive signing in the Dons’ history.
The former Paris Saint-Germain man will link up with former Pompey teammate Kusini Yengi, who signed on a free transfer.
Black Cats make correct decision on Aouchiche
While the attacking midfielder has shown glimpses, he has not done enough to secure his future at the Stadium of Light.
Aouchiche is clearly a naturally gifted talent, but he was lacking in end product when called upon last season.
If Sunderland had remained a Championship team, then he may have had some part to play next term.
However, in truth, he would not have been getting into a side fighting for promotion to the Premier League.
Aouchiche is unlikely to be the only fringe player departing the Stadium of Light this summer.
Milan Aleksic has been linked with a loan move, while Pierre Ekwah will surely be moved on in some capacity.
The Premier League will be a difference maker for several players, and Aouchiche could start a domino effect of departures.
