Sunderland make Caden Kelly loan announcement
Sunderland announced on Thursday that Caden Kelly has extended his loan spell at Darlington and will remain with the club until January.
The Championship leaders confirmed the extension on 21 November, in a post on their official X account.
Kelly has featured six times for the Quakers since joining on loan although is yet to register a goal contribution.
Does Caden Kelly have a future at Sunderland?
Despite having impressed throughout his time at the club at youth level, Kelly just hasn’t been able to make the step up to first-team level unlike some of his peers.
Tommy Watson and Chris Rigg are two prime examples of players who thrived at academy level and progressed but Kelly hasn’t quite hit those heights.
Harrison Jones is another player to have impressed at youth level at a younger age and has also been rewarded for those performances, having featured earlier in the campaign against Preston in the EFL Cup.
Graeme Murty had been consistent with his selection of Kelly in his Under-21 side up until his loan exit although that may change when he returns.

Now 21 years old, his future on Wearside looks bleak and with the Black Cats having such a strong campaign, any chance of him featuring when he returns in January looks very unlikely.
Sunderland may look to offload Kelly permanently in January if they are able to find a suitor.
