Sunderland make approach for ‘special’ winger amid Patrick Roberts update
Deadline day is proving to be frantic, with Sunderland looking to add another winger to their squad before 7pm.
It’s been a whirlwind 24 hours at the Stadium of Light, started by the news that Marc Guiu would be returning to Chelsea after an agreement was struck with Sunderland.
Since then, Sunderland have agreed a deal to sign Brian Brobbey and Lutsharel Geertruida, though they may not be the only new arrivals on Monday.
After news emerged of Patrick Roberts’ potential exit to Birmingham, the Wearsiders have been linked with a move to sign a left-footed winger.

Yaser Asprilla attracts Premier League interest as Girona respond to bid
According to Pipe Sierra via X, Sunderland had made an approach to sign Yaser Asprilla, formerly of Watford.
The Colombian currently plays his trade for Girona, with it claimed that Everton have had a bid turned down for the winger.
Sunderland’s interest didn’t go beyond an enquiry, with it reported that the Black Cats were not willing to meet the “high figures” demanded by the La Liga club.
Asprilla is very highly rated, having first emerged from Envigado, where his former coach, Alberto Suarez, labelled him as a “special player”, as quoted by Arsenal Insider.
Sunderland will have to look elsewhere to bolster their attack in the final few hours of the transfer window, though, as showcased throughout the summer, they will have targets in mind.
Sunderland can find better than Yaser Asprilla
Since making the move to Girona last summer, Asprilla has only scored three goals, with just one assist to his name on top of that.
The 21-year-old had a fruitful campaign in the Championship before that, with 14 goal contributions in 47 appearances for Watford, which is what ultimately earned him a move abroad.
However, given what would likely have been a high asking price, Sunderland will be better suited to look elsewhere, as they have done on several occasions already this summer.
