Sunderland loanee set for early return as final decision made
Sunderland are set to welcome one of their youngsters back to the Academy of Light.
With the January transfer window now open and European football in sight, Sunderland are expected to be active this month.
Not only in terms of incomings, but also outgoings, with several players already having been linked with a move away from the Stadium of Light.
However, January also provided the opportunity for the Black Cats to reassess the situation over the loan stars that departed in the summer, one of whom is already set to return.
Trey Ogunsuyi set to have loan terminated
Sunderland have several youth players tipped to have a big future on Wearside, with Trey Ogunsuyi among those players.
The Belgium youth international scored regularly for Sunderland‘s youth side before he was afforded a loan move to Falkirk this summer.
However, that move has not gone to plan, with the teenager having started just two league games for the Scottish outfit, with 220 minutes played in total.
In that time, he has also failed to register a goal or an assist.
Now, Anything Falkirk have reported that Ogunsuyi has been recalled by Sunderland with immediate effect.
Sunderland will no doubt be keen on finding him another club this month, though it seems more likely to be in England this time, with several EFL clubs said to have been keen on a deal in the summer window.
Trey Ogunsuyi was once wanted by Liverpool
Prior to his move to Falkirk, Ogunsyi had scored four goals and registered two assists in three games for Sunderland Under-21’s, having scored 15 goals the season before.
His continued form attracted interest over the last 12 months, and even Liverpool were linked with Ogunsuyi.
The 19-year-old is under contract on Wearside until the summer of 2028, meaning the Black Cats still have plenty of time to see how he can develop.
However, that is again likely to hinge on where he plays the remainder of the current campaign, having had a large portion of his development hindered by a lack of gametime.
