Sunderland gem Adam Richardson returns from loan stint amid financial restrictions
Sunderland gem Adam Richardson has returned to his parent club as Hebburn Town couldn’t afford to extend the goalkeeper’s loan.
Richardson has been tipped to have a big future in football and has impressed for Sunderland’s Under-21 side when he has played.
A loan spell would follow for the youngster, joining Hebburn on a 30-day loan but the club have confirmed they can’t afford to extend it.
In quotes reported by the Sunderland Echo, Daniel Moore said: “Like all non-league clubs, if we had the money, I’d have loved to have kept him. But you probably know as well as I do that when you’ve got lads on £150 it’s a lot of money to us so it’s a shame that we couldn’t keep him but he covered our keeper who had a month out and he came in and he’s kept us up in the mix for the season going forward.
“We played some really top teams and he acquitted himself really well, in my opinion. He came into the dressing room and his attitude was good, he probably just needs to continue playing men’s football.
“I’d had an extra £100 then I’d have kept him around and it would have been good to see them both try and compete for that for their number one shirt.”
Sunderland are stacked in the goalkeeping department
One thing Sunderland have always thrived at is producing goalkeepers. Jordan Pickford is of course the most notable emergence from the academy, going on to be England’s number one, but Anthony Patterson, Adam Richardson and Matty Young have all been tipped to play at a high level.
The latter is currently on loan at Salford and impressed last season when playing non-league football.
Even added to that, Simon Moore made his league debut fore the club against Oxford and looked assured in goal despite barely being tested.

Patterson has been linked with moves away over the past 12 months but he remains a Sunderland player and in the vent he did leave, Sunderland would bag a nice sum of cash while still having plenty of potential future replacements.
Richardson is likely to find another loan spell away from Sunderland as he continues to get familarised with men’s football which certainly differs greatly from academy games.
In other Sunderland news, Sunderland have reportedly slapped a “£25-£30million” price tag on the head of teenage sensation Chris Rigg ahead of anticipated January interest.
