Sunderland leave Premier League heavyweights in their wake for in-demand star

Sunderland will not be resting on their laurels, with plans already in place for the January transfer window.

Sunderland are breaking the mould in the Premier League this season, with 18 points from their first 10 games back in the top flight.

The Black Cats recruited heavily, but extremely well, in the summer, and Kyril Louis-Dreyfus has already stated that plans are in place for Sunderland to go again in the winter.

In past years, these would be typical squad filler signings, but the Black Cats will almost certainly be planning for something far more special this January.

Premier League chief lets slip on transfer details

Darren Bent has mooted European football for Sunderland, and while that is nothing short of a fantasy at this moment, it could become a genuine goal if the Black Cats can recruit well.

Based on a report from The i Paper, it seems like they will.

On 7 November, it was reported that a recruitment executive in the Premier League revealed they had talks with an agent in regard to a “highly regarded international player”.

It’s claimed that this player has attracted interest from regular European competitors, but it was the project at the Stadium of Light that interested them the most.

It’s unclear as to whether this was a summer deal or something that is in the pipeline for January, but it is highly promising either way.

From being a mid-table League One club not so long ago, Sunderland already have the pull of an established Premier League outfit, despite being just 10 games into their top-flight campaign.

January links are soon to heat up for Sunderland

Mackem News have already revealed that the Black Cats are looking into two deals for January, with more surely to follow.

Fabio Carvalho is a loan target for Sunderland, while up-and-coming Serbian wonderkid Ognjen Bondzulic is also on their radar.

As things stand, it’s a fair assumption to make that Sunderland will be in the market for at least one wide player, with three of their current options set to jet off to AFCON in December.

Full back cover may also be on the agenda, depending on where Dennis Cirkin’s future lies.
