Sunderland learn Romaine Mundle fate ahead of play-off semi-finals

Sunderland are headed for the Championship play-offs in the coming weeks, and will need to quickly return to their best form.

The Black Cats have been poor in recent weeks, suffering a disastrous run of form when they accepted they were out of the top two race in the Championship.

Sunderland had an impressive campaign for most of the season as they easily secured fourth place, but the last few weeks have the alarm bells ringing, with huge pressure now on to deliver when it matters most.

Winger Romaine Mundle has spent a lot of time injured this season, but he could now return to give his side a huge boost.

Mundle to return for Sunderland play-off push

Regis Le Bris could benefit from having all his options fit during the play-offs, and there is a lot of concern that recent results have dented their confidence.

However, Mundle returning to play a part in the two-legged tie would give them a massive boost, both on the pitch as well as for morale.

Mundle has now been spotted in training ahead of Sunderland’s final game in the regular season, and having the 22-year-old back in the squad could be game-changing.

The Englishman has scored five goals from the wing this season, and it is now hoped that he will be ready to play a part to help Sunderland reach the Premier League.

Mundle can take Tommy Watson’s starting place

Le Bris angered Sunderland fans when he chose to start Tommy Watson in recent weeks, despite the teenager agreeing a move to Brighton in the Premier League.

Watson was underwhelming on the wings, and many questioned why he was still continuing to start in those times.

This could now mean Mundle comes back into the Sunderland side for Watson, and fans would certainly love this decision as it means getting rid of a hated player and providing an upgrade on the outgoing winger.

Mundle has not played at all since early April, but he is returning at the perfect time to help Sunderland return to the Premier League for the first time since 2017.
