Sunderland launch £5m bid for Leicester City forward Tom Cannon – report

Sunderland have made an offer of around £5million for Leicester City forward Tom Cannon, according to John Percy.

The Telegraph journalist posted on X [26 August] that Norwich City, Stoke City and Sheffield United are weighing up bids of their own.

Cannon is out of favour at Premier League side Leicester, but the Foxes are still eager to raise up to £7m for the in-demand forward [Alan Nixon, 25 August].

Sunderland mean business this season

Sunderland have brought in numerous new faces this summer, but there has been a general reluctance to spend too much.

Five players have joined as free agents, including Ian Poveda, while Wilson Isidor was the latest arrival on loan last week.

The Black Cats now look ready to show the rest of the Championship that they mean business by spending a fairly sizeable sum on a new forward.

Leicester are not prepared to sell on the cheap, so it remains to be seen if this £5m bid will be enough.

The fact that three other clubs are in for Cannon is a worry, but Sunderland must stick to their guns and not spend beyond their means.

Cannon impressed at this level for Preston North End a couple of seasons ago, and he would certainly bolster Sunderland’s playoff aspirations should he indeed arrive.

In other Sunderland news, Regis Le Bris has admitted a player could leave the club before 30 August.
