Sunderland in race to sign £7m Leicester City forward Tom Cannon – report
Sunderland are interested in signing forward Tom Cannon from Premier League side Leicester City, according to Alan Nixon.
The journalist reported via his Patreon page [25 August] that Luton Town, Sheffield United and Stoke City are also in the race to sign Cannon.
Nixon added that Sunderland will have to “move fast” if they intend to see off the growing competition for the former Everton player, who is valued as much as £7million.
Tom Cannon would be great addition for Sunderland
Cannon is a player in demand and it is no surprise to see Sunderland showing an interest, although the number of other sides also in for him does not bode well.
Sunderland do not really look like being in a position to splash out £7m on a player in the final few days of the window.
If they are to spend big on one player, though, then Cannon may well be the man. The 21-year-old starred in the Championship with Preston North End two seasons ago.
He scored eight goals and assisted another in just 20 matches, averaging 0.43 goals and assists combined per 90 minutes – a superb return.
That led to a recall by Everton, but he was sold to Leicester last summer and his career has stagnated somewhat.

Cannon has showed what he is capable of in the second tier and he would be a great addition to the Black Cats’ attack.
Getting the board to splash out prior to the 30 August deadline, however, is another matter entirely.
