‘Sunderland history repeating itself’ after Premier League fixture reveal
Sunderland are now aware of the fate that awaits them in the Premier League.
Given the time of year, most of the focus at the Stadium of Light is on transfers, with Enzo Le Fee still the only arrival thus far.
However, the Black Cats will be looking to make many more additions to their squad in an attempt to bolster their chances of breaking the trend of newly promoted teams dropping straight back into the Championship.
Taking that into account, one period of the season will stand out the most for Sunderland, and will bring back some incredible memories among those on Wearside.

Chelsea encounter set to round off Sunderland campaign
Sunderland supporters have been waiting eagerly to see the fixture list for the upcoming Premier League season, and now that they have been released, two encounters in particular will stand out.
First and foremost, West Ham will be the Black Cats’ first opponents next season, making the trip to the Stadium of Light on 16 August, but it is the final run which will spark the most intrigue.
An away encounter with Everton will be followed by a final-day clash at home to Chelsea.
Premier League | Sunderland |
25 April | Nottingham Forest (h) |
2 May | Wolves (a) |
9 May | Man United (h) |
17 May | Everton (a) |
24 May | Chelsea (h) |
Of course, it was those two fixtures in succession, albeit in reverse order, back in 2016, when the Black Cats picked up six points to secure Premier League survival and relegate Newcastle in the process.
A dramatic 3-2 victory over Chelsea and the 3-0 hammering of Everton are two of the most memorable fixtures to have ever been played at the Stadium of Light, and fans will undoubtedly be hoping to see a similar outcome next time out.

Sunderland have been aided by fixture list
Aside from a treacherous Christmas period, in which they will face fierce rivals Newcastle United for the first time, the fixture list has blessed the Black Cats.
However, unless they get recruitment right, it will make little to no difference who they are up against in their bid for survival.
These next few weeks will be crucial on a transfer front, and it is imperative that any incomings are the right ones this summer.
